Problem:
Mount of filesystem failed.
A maintenance shell will now be started.
CONTROL-D will terminate this shell and retry.
Solution:
1. type the root password
2. Enter the command "fsck"
3. Reboot.
The step 2 might have to be repeated a few times, but this should get you out of the problem.
